Had a talk with my uncle that changed how I see engine swaps

I was over at my uncle's shop in Omaha last weekend helping him pull a 350 out of a '78 Chevy truck. He told me he thinks I'm wasting time trying to drop a V8 into my old Mazda RX-7 because the handling gets ruined and the brakes can't keep up. At first I got defensive, but then he showed me his buddy's car that did the swap years ago and it's just a straight-line boat now. Has anyone else had a project that went wrong because you chased power instead of balance?

Balance beats horsepower every time.

Ha, says every guy I've ever seen get walked in the corners by a Miata on a back road. I've lost count of the number of big horsepower cars I've watched spin out on an off-ramp. Nothing quite like a fancy engine that can't handle a simple turn, right?
