Finally got the old Subaru to pass inspection after 3 tries
Picked up a 2002 Outback for 800 bucks back in March. Failed on a rusted brake line and a stuck caliper. Took me 4 weekends in my buddy's driveway in Portland to swap both rear lines and rebuild the calipers. Cost me about 60 bucks in parts and a lot of PB Blaster. Passed this morning with no issues. Anyone else deal with rust belt cars that fight you every step of the way?

Gotta say I actually prefer working on rusty cars. "Fought me every step of the way" is exactly why I enjoy it more than some clean southern car. You learn way more when you have to deal with seized bolts and snapped lines compared to something that just bolts right off. Plus the satisfaction of finally getting that caliper bracket off after three heat cycles is way better than a clean job that takes an hour.

Laughing in seized bleeder screw while you type that. Nothing like a "simple" brake job turning into a two day saga with the torch.
