Appreciation post: carburetors vs. fuel injection on a tight budget
I spent last summer swapping a Holley 4160 onto a junkyard 350 in my '72 Chevelle. Cost me $80 total for the carb and a gasket kit. My buddy dumped $600 on a used Holley Sniper EFI kit for his truck and spent 3 weekends fighting wiring gremlins. Both got the job done, but mine fired up first try and I had a working car for less than a sixth of the price. Has anyone else stuck with old tech just to keep costs down?

Dude you snagged a running 4160 for eighty bucks. I had to read that twice. Around here people want $150 for a worn out two barrel off a 305. That deal alone is worth bragging about. The Sniper stuff has its place but I've seen too many guys chase ground issues or bad sensors for weeks. If your goal is to just get the car moving and not win any shows, an old carb is hard to beat. And honestly, that six to one price difference is the real world math most of us need to think about.

Feel your pain on the wiring gremlins. Good old mechanical fuel delivery just works.
