Why does nobody talk about the great bean can explosion of Tuesday night
I was in my kitchen in Omaha trying to make a cheap chili with a dented can of black beans I got for 50 cents. I went to open it with my old can opener and the whole top just blew off, sending beans and juice all over my ceiling. I spent the next 45 minutes cleaning bean splatter off of everything, including the inside of my microwave. Has anyone else had a can just totally fail on them like that?

That dented can for 50 cents in Omaha sounds like a ticking time bomb... @the_amy has a point about pointing it away, but a full explosion is next level. Did it make a loud pop or was it more of a sudden, quiet spray? I'm just picturing beans in the microwave and it's a special kind of clean-up hell.

Wait, isn't the dent the main worry for botulism, not the can exploding?

Honestly a dented can for 50 cents is kind of asking for trouble. I mean, it sucks to clean up but it's not exactly a major disaster. Maybe it's just me but I feel like cans fail sometimes, it's why you point them away from your face. The real story is you got a cheap lesson in canned food safety.
