Was buying bagged rice for years until a coworker pointed out the price difference

I always grabbed the 5 lb bags at the grocery store for $4 each. My buddy at the shop said I was throwing money away, so I went to the Mexican grocery and got a 20 lb bag for $11. Has anyone else done the math on bulk staples?

oh man, that's exactly what happened to me too. idk why it took me so long to realize the 5 lb bags are basically a scam for the lazy. i went to the asian market out by the highway and got a 25 lb bag of jasmine rice for like $14, and it lasts me months. i mean, i just keep it in a big container in the pantry, no big deal. once you get used to the upfront cost it just makes sense, even with the bigger bag to haul home.
