Used to buy chicken breast at $4.99/lb, now I wait for the Sunday night markdown at Kroger
I started checking the meat case around 7pm on Sundays about 5 months ago and the same packs get stickered down to $2.49/lb. Anyone else timing their grocery runs around markdown schedules at their store?
The trick with those Sunday markdowns is that the good stuff goes fast, so you can't just show up at 7 and hope. I started talking to the guy working the meat counter and he told me they usually sticker things around 6:30 on weekdays but Sundays it's closer to 7:30, so now I know when to walk in. If you get friendly with the people in that department they'll straight up tell you the schedule and sometimes even hold a pack back if you ask nice. My chest freezer paid for itself in about 3 months just from buying marked down chicken, pork and beef and freezing it the same night. Just check the sell by date before you buy so you know how long you have to cook or freeze it. Once you learn your store's rhythm you stop paying full price for meat ever again.
