The dented can cart at my local grocery in Dayton is basically a $10 dinner kit
I was killing time at a grocery on Wayne Ave in Dayton waiting for a prescription and finally looked at that rolling cart of dented cans by the back wall. Turned out a lot of it was crushed boxes of pasta and beans, stuff where the box got smashed but the food is sealed fine, and I walked out with a bag of black beans, two cans of tomatoes, and a box of penne for $3.80 total. I did black bean pasta with the tomatoes that night and it fed me and my roommate for two dinners, which works out to under a buck a plate. The catch is you have to check dates and skip anything with a torn inner bag. Does anyone else shop the clearance cart first, and what meals do you build out of whatever happens to be in it that week?
