Rant: The 'mince and rice' everyone loves is just bad cooking

I see everyone on here hyping up mince and rice as the ultimate budget meal. I made it four times last month following different recipes and it came out bland and mushy every single time. Am I missing some secret or is this just a comfort food that people pretend tastes good because it's cheap?

Honestly changed my mind after adding better seasoning and draining the fat.
