Overheard a guy at the grocery store say canned beans are cheaper than dried if you factor in the gas to cook them

I did the math on my last batch of dried chickpeas and with my old stove taking 2 hours to simmer, he might actually be right, has anyone else checked their energy cost vs the store brand cans?

... and honestly @thomas_yung, that's pretty close to what I found with my chickpeas. My 2 hour simmer cost about 12 cents in gas, and the canned version was only 8 cents more at the store. So yeah, beans are basically a wash unless you're buying in bulk or have a pressure cooker.

My buddy Mike timed his $0.79 can of pinto beans against a batch he slow-cooked for 3 hours and said the can won by about 15 cents in electricity.
