My slow cooker rice turned to mush 3 times before I figured it out

I was trying to make cheap rice and beans in my slow cooker for meal prep last month. First time the rice came out like paste. Second time I cut the liquid in half, still mushy. Third time I added the rice 30 minutes before serving and it finally worked. Anyone else given up on slow cooker rice and just use a pot instead?

I used to be one of those people who thought slow cookers were foolproof for everything. But after turning two bags of basmati into wallpaper paste, I completely changed my mind. Rice just doesn't work in a slow cooker unless you babysit it, and at that point you might as well use a pot. The timing is way too tricky because slow cookers trap so much steam and moisture. Your method of adding it at the very end makes sense I should have tried that before giving up completely. Now I just make my rice on the stove while the beans cook separately and it saves me so much stress.
