My sister swore beans in spaghetti sauce was a money saver, I called her crazy

She said to swap half the ground beef for lentils and kidney beans in my bolognese, and after trying it last week the texture is fine and it stretched one pound of meat into three meals. Anyone else have a relative push a cheap swap that actually worked?

Yeah lentils in sauce is fine, people just get weird about bean texture.

Is swapping lentils for half the meat really enough of a game changer to get fired up about? I mean sure it saves a buck or two but at the end of the day you're still eating spaghetti sauce, not curing world hunger here. Feels like a pretty low-stakes thing to be calling someone crazy over (though I guess family drama is always a little extra).
