I used to just eyeball spices and ruined so many meals...
For years I'd dump chili powder, cumin, whatever into my pot and hope for the best. Last month I finally started measuring every spice with a simple teaspoon set, and my budget chili from Aldi actually tastes like something now. Has anyone else found that just a little bit of measuring stuff makes cheap food way better?

My wife got mad because I started keeping a little notebook in the kitchen with measurements for everything. Like 1.5 teaspoons of paprika not 2. She said it was taking all the fun out of cooking but honestly my fried rice stopped tasting like a salt bomb. The kids even asked what I did different and they never notice anything.

Notebook is a bit much but measuring's the real game changer. Cheap food just needs consistency more than anything fancy. That little discipline goes a long way.
