Burnt a pot of beans so bad I had to throw it out

I was making a big batch of black beans for the week in my apartment in Phoenix and got distracted watching a video for like 20 minutes. The bottom turned into a solid black crust and now that pot smells like a campfire no matter how much I scrub. Any tips for keeping beans from scorching on a cheap electric stove without standing over them the whole time?

Man I did the exact same thing last month with a pot of pintos. Switched to soaking them first and keeping the heat on low, still had to toss one pot though.

Soak em overnight then cook on low, @sean_foster52. Saved my beans for sure.

@noahchen yeah that soak and low heat trick didn't work for me either. I started adding a splash of vinegar to the soaking water and it finally fixed the problem.
