Just realized I'd been unplugging HDMI cables by the cord for 6 years
Pulled the cord on my PS5 last Tuesday and the connector came off inside the port, and that's when a guy at the repair shop in Reno told me to grab the plug head every time. How many of you are still guilty of the yank?
That part about the guy at the repair shop telling you to grab the plug head every time really got me. I used to think pulling the cord was fine if you were gentle about it, like the connector would just handle it. Then my old monitor started cutting out and I opened up the back and one of the solder points was cracked right where the port meets the board. Nobody had ever told me the cord yank was the reason, so seeing that made it click for me. Now I grab the plug every single time, even if it feels slower. It's one of those small habits that saves you a way worse day later.
