I finally stopped blaming my kid for the broken lightning cables, and the real cause was way dumber
For years I figured my son was just rough on his charging cords because he went through 4 of them in about 8 months, all frayed right at the plug. Then last month I noticed the same damage on my own cable, which never leaves my desk, and it hit me that neither of us unplugs by the head, we both just yank the cord. The bending happens right where the little plastic strain relief meets the wire, and that spot takes every bit of the pull. I started grabbing the metal end instead about 3 months ago and the same cable is still going strong. Has anyone found a brand that actually survives the yank method, or do I just need to train my whole house?
