Braided nylon sleeve beat my heat shrink tubing on a 6 foot HDMI run
Wrapped my cat chewed HDMI cable with heat shrink tubing last year and it cracked in 2 weeks because the cable still bends right at the connector. Tried a $9 braided nylon sleeve with the little velcro end caps this time and it's been solid for 4 months, even with the cat. Anyone got a better fix for the strain relief right at the plug?
The braided sleeve is fine for the middle of the cable but it does nothing for the real problem, which is right at the plug. Heat shrink cracks there because the cable keeps flexing at that exact spot and rigid plastic hates bending. What worked for me was building up a little ramp with sugru or even hot glue and tape, so the cable has a gradual curve instead of a sharp bend. It looks ugly but mine has lasted over a year with a rabbit that chews everything in sight.
