A cracked HDMI port at a Madison hotel AV cart made me rethink the tape vs. strain relief debate
Last month I was setting up a projector in a conference room at the Best Western in Madison and the HDMI port on their old AV cart was so loose the picture cut out every time someone bumped the table. I had a roll of electrical tape in my bag and wrapped the cable tight against the cart frame, and it held for the whole 2 hour meeting, but my buddy who does AV for a living says tape is a band-aid and you need a proper strain relief clamp or a right angle adapter. So here is the debate: is quick tape and a zip tie to the frame good enough, or is that just asking for a broken port later? I know tape residue gets gummy after a few months and can make the connector sit weird, but a $6 adapter feels like overkill when you are fixing someone else's cart. What do you all do when you are stuck with a loose port and no proper tools on site?
