My grandpa's 1962 Popular Mechanics said a brake job takes 45 minutes and I laughed out loud
I was digging through his garage in Akron last weekend and found a stack of old Popular Mechanics mags from 1962, and one had a full brake job walkthrough on a Chevy. The whole thing was labeled a 45 minute job with basic hand tools. I've got my own truck torn apart in the driveway right now and I'm 3 hours in just getting the rusty caliper bolts loose. Back then you could actually reach everything and parts weren't fused together with 20 winters of road salt. Are old repair guides like this still useful for anything, or is it just fun to look at how simple cars used to be?
