DAE get annoyed by people torquing lug nuts with the impact gun and calling it done?
Helped a buddy swap his brake pads in his driveway in Fresno, and he zipped the lugs back on with his impact and said it was fine. I checked them with my $12 torque wrench a week later and two were at like 60 ft-lbs when his car calls for 80, so I made him redo the whole set by hand. How many of you tighten yours with a torque wrench, or am I being too picky about a $12 tool?
Honestly 60 ft-lbs vs 80 is not the end of the world. Plenty of people have run wheels looser than that for years without a wheel falling off. Your buddy's not gonna die from it. But the real issue is the impact gun, not the number. Torque sticks and a cheap gun can leave stuff all over the place, and overtorquing stretches studs and warps rotors faster than being a little under does. A $12 wrench is fine for checking, nobody's saying you need a Snap-on. Just saying the sky isn't falling because two lugs were at 60.
