TIL covering fresh mortar in rain is not optional

Watched a new guy on site lose a whole morning's work because he didn't throw tarps over the wall before a surprise shower. That mortar just turned to paste and the top 3 courses had to be pulled. How do you handle sudden weather on a tight deadline?

Toss a few tarps in the truck bed before you even mix the first batch. I keep a stack of old moving blankets too, they soak up water and keep the mortar from washing out in a light sprinkle. On tight deadlines, I check the radar every hour and have a guy ready with ropes and tarps the second they call it. Saved me more than a few re-dos on jobs where the schedule was already shot.

Yeah @leo_campbell I get it but isn't this overkill for a little rain on a brick wall.
