Old timer on the scaffold in Tulsa said my head joints were 1/4 inch wide, and he was dead on
I was laying a run of block last week and he walked by, looked at my work, and just said the joints were too wide to hold mortar. I grabbed my tape and sure enough he was spot on. Any of you guys got a quick way to check joint width without stopping every 3 blocks?
Had a guy tell me once that a joint that looks right usually is right, and your eye catches problems faster than a tape does. He said to pick one block near the end of the run and check that one against the last, since the gap there tells you if you been drifting. Still not sure I buy it, but I quit measuring every block after that and my walls stayed straight.
