I switched from a 10 inch trowel to a 12 inch and it changed my speed on big walls
Used to always grab a 10 inch margin trowel for everything, even big commercial jobs. Then last fall I was doing a 40 foot wall in Denver and my buddy Bob handed me his 12 inch Marshalltown. Idk why I fought it so long, but the wider bed means way less passes and my lines stayed straighter. Has anyone else made the jump to a bigger trowel and found it messes with your mortar consistency at first?

Bigger trowel just feels right on long runs...

Grant Perry really thinks a bigger trowel is some kind of game changer for long runs? Ive been doing this long enough to know its mostly in your head. The difference between a 4 inch and a 6 inch trowel is like two seconds of extra work over a whole day. People act like theyre hauling bricks across the Sahara when its just a walk down the driveway. But hey, if it helps you sleep at night @grant_perry, knock yourself out with that big trowel.
