Hit 100,000 bricks laid this week and it caught me off guard
I was doing a small retaining wall job for a guy in Allentown and just out of curiosity I started keeping a tally. After 12 years in the trade I figured I had to be somewhere around 80,000 bricks give or take. Well I hit 100,000 this past Tuesday and it really made me stop and think. That's a lot of mortar mixing and level checking and back aches. I never thought of myself as someone who would track that kind of thing but now I'm kind of glad I did. It puts into perspective how much repetition goes into this work and how each brick is just another step forward. Has anyone else here ever counted up their total bricks laid over the years?

100,000 bricks? You gotta be kidding me, that's a whole city wall right there.

City wall? Maybe if it was a tiny city in a fairy tale. 100,000 bricks sounds like a lot until you realize a standard house uses like 8,000 bricks or something close. So that's like... 12 houses worth of bricks built into a single wall for one house. People act like it's this huge deal but developers do this stuff all the time, it's just a big number that sounds scary.
