Found out my mortar mix was WRONG for 3 years

Was reading a spec sheet from a local supplier in Phoenix and realized I have been using Type S for residential foundations when Type N would have been better for the softer brick around here. Who else has been using the wrong mix and found out way too late?

Wait, are you talking about the clay bricks that are real soft or just regular old red commons? I made a similar mistake a couple years back when I was building a planter wall. Used straight portland cement instead of mixing in lime because I was in a hurry and figured it would hold up fine. Turns out the bricks started chipping on the corners less than a year later. The mortar was way too hard and the bricks just couldn't handle it. Had to tear the whole thing down and redo it with a proper mix. Learned my lesson the hard way.

Ngl those are soft mud bricks not commons.
