Fire alarm goes off mid-wall, customer says keep laying brick
I don't trust mortar that's mixed before 7am in July. Two weeks ago in Columbus we started a retaining wall at 6:30, the guy ahead of me had his mix sitting in the pan for 45 minutes. Looked fine, but it was crusted on top and he just kept adding water. I told him to dump it, he argued, I showed him the cured chunks by scooping a trowel through it. We lost 20 minutes and a bag of mix, but the wall we laid that afternoon hasn't cracked a bit. Why do some guys think re-wetting dried mortar is a shortcut and not a liability?
