An inspector in Toledo told me my weep holes were clogged with mortar droppings, and now I check every single one.

Hate to be that guy but weep holes are actually supposed to be there for drainage, you dont want them clogged but the mortar droppings thing is real. The coat hanger trick works but you gotta be careful not to push the debris further in.

Oh man, that inspector story gave me flashbacks. My dad was a total stickler for checking weep holes on our old brick patio. He'd get down there with a coat hanger every spring, muttering about water damage. I used to think it was overkill until I saw the rotten wood on our neighbor's place where the water had no way out. Now I can't walk past a brick wall without looking for those little gaps.

Did your dad ever find anything major blocked in those weep holes, or was it mostly just leaves and dirt? That kind of routine check seems smart until you actually find the one thing causing real trouble. Makes you wonder what else we're all missing that seems small.
