30 years in and I just learned my level was off the whole time
Been laying brick since 1994 and last Tuesday I caught my plumb bob reading a quarter inch off on a garage corner in Tulsa. Turns out the hook on my 6-foot level got bent at some point loading the truck, so every wall I checked with it was slightly tilted. How often do you guys actually check your levels for accuracy, or am I the only one who trusted the same one for decades?

Happens way more than people think, not just with levels but with everything we rely on daily. I caught my tape measure stretching last year and it messed up a whole kitchen layout before I noticed. We trust our tools so hard we forget they're just objects that wear out, bend, and lie to us over time. It's like how people never check their car tire pressure until something blows out, or how nobody recalibrates their kitchen scale until the cookies come out weird. The scary part is how many other things in life are probably off by a little and we just never bother to double check them. Good on you for catching it, most folks would've gone another 30 years blaming the walls instead of the level.
