The night auditor at a hotel in Boise showed me why his boring job pays $24 an hour
I was working the front desk at a 90 room hotel in Boise and our night guy called in sick, so I covered his shift at 11pm and found out he spends most of it doing nothing except running a 20 minute report and watching the lobby. When the fire panel started chirping at 3am I panicked, but he walked me through it over the phone and showed me the panel just needed a battery swap from the maintenance closet. For those of you in late shift jobs, what is the weirdest thing that broke on your watch and how did you handle it?
Had a toilet supply line burst at 2am in a 60 room place. Water everywhere in the hallway. First move is find the shutoff, and it's usually not where you expect. Mine was behind a panel in the laundry room. Keep a headlamp and a wrench by the desk from now on. Beats panicking in the dark while the carpet soaks.
