Showerthought: my data entry job at a title company in Boise went from soul crushing to the best gig I ever had
When I started 3 years ago I was retyping the same 12 fields from scanned deeds all day for $14 an hour and my wrists hurt by lunch. About 8 months in the company paid for a $300 OCR plugin for Adobe that auto filled maybe 70% of the fields, so I went from 40 files a day to almost 90. Then the manager let me work from home Tuesdays and Thursdays since half my shift was just checking the machine's guesses. Now I make $21 an hour, average around 100 files, and I still get bored some days but I am not sore and I can do laundry between batches. Does anyone here actually prefer the manual version of their job over the automated one, or am I the weird one for missing the typing a little?
Kind of sounds like you're asking a question nobody can really answer for you. Missing the typing a little is just nostalgia talking, your body sure doesn't miss it and that's the part that actually matters. Take the win and let the boredom be boring.
