Rant: the $15 paper logbook beat the $60/month fleet app for my brother's 6 vans
My brother runs 6 delivery vans out of Sacramento and tried one of those GPS fleet apps at $60 a month per van, so $360 a month, and the thing kept flagging his best driver for hard braking in a school zone where the guy was going 8 mph. I talked him into going back to a $15 paper logbook from the auto parts store plus a clipboard in each van, and 4 months in his fuel bill dropped $110 a month because the drivers actually check tire pressure when they write it down by hand. The app sent alerts nobody read, but a pen and a grid gets read every single morning before the key turns. I get that live tracking sounds safer, but when was the last time a push notification got a guy to top off his coolant? Anyone here run a small fleet on paper and have it work, or did you end up needing the app for insurance reasons?
