Why does nobody talk about using a bone folder on your spines instead of a burnisher?

I was wrecking my book spines trying to get them smooth with a smooth metal tool until my old mentor told me to swap to a basic Teflon bone folder, and now I'm curious how many of you stick with the traditional bone folder versus trying out something like a plastic folder or even a polished stone for that final press before casing in.

Man that "wrecking my book spines" part hit home, I ruined so many before I learned the same trick.

wait did you switch to Teflon specifically because of the heat issue? I tried a polished stone once and it worked okay but it felt like I was gonna crack the spine if I pressed too hard. what made you pick Teflon over something like nylon or just sticking with the regular bone?
