That time a library in Portland made me throw out my bone folder

I was helping with a repair day at the Multnomah County Library, and a volunteer there saw me using my old bone folder to crease a new endpaper. She said, 'You're going to tear that with a tool that sharp.' I argued, but she handed me a simple teflon folder instead. The paper just glided and the crease was perfect, no risk of damage. Now I keep my bone folder for heavy board work only. Anyone else switch tools after a moment like that?

Ever notice how the right tool for the job is often the simpler one? I see that a lot with kitchen gadgets too.

Oh man, you're totally right. I've got this fancy mandoline slicer that never gets used because my cheap veggie peeler does 90% of the same jobs without the cleanup hassle. It's backwards but sometimes the basic stuff just works better.

Honestly I have the opposite problem in my kitchen. The simple tools let me down all the time. My basic can opener is a fight every single time, but the one with the little motor? Worth every bit of the clutter. Sometimes the fancy gadget is the right tool because it actually gets the job done without a struggle.
