Pro tip: I spent three whole days trying to get the headband on a quarter-leather binding to sit flat without puckering.
What finally worked was a tiny bit of paste on the leather itself before I put the book in the press, has anyone else found a better trick for this?

Wish I had your patience. I usually just press it down and hope for the best, which explains the weird lump on my last project. Your paste trick sounds way smarter than my usual method.

Oh the "press it down and hope for the best" method, I know that one well. Honestly, the paste trick only came after a few lumpy disasters of my own. What really helped was using a credit card to spread it thin and flat before I even try to stick it down. It feels like an extra step but it saves so much time fixing mistakes later.

Actually the credit card trick is for spreading glue, not paste.
