My first 20 pamphlet stitch books cracked at the spine, then I changed one thing and all 20 held
I bound 20 little pamphlet stitch notebooks back in January using 80lb text paper and they all split right down the fold within two weeks of people using them. The fix was punching my holes further from the spine edge, about 3/8 inch in instead of 1/8, so the thread wasn't tearing through that thin margin. I also switched to waxed linen thread instead of the cheap cotton I had on hand, and the difference after another batch of 20 was night and day. Has anyone else run into the spine cracking when the holes are too close to the fold, or am I the only one who learned this the hard way?
