Finally got the foil stamping on my leather journal spine right

Spent three whole evenings trying to get the heat and pressure just right on my cheap hand press. The gold foil kept coming out patchy until I tried pre-heating the leather with a hair dryer for 30 seconds. Anyone else have a better trick for small-scale foil work?

Oh man, that sounds like a battle! I can just picture you hunched over that press for three nights, getting more and more mad at a piece of gold foil. The hair dryer trick is genius though. My version of that is usually just yelling at the thing until it works.

Wait, three nights? That's a whole new level of commitment to a craft project. I would have given up and hidden the whole mess in a drawer after the first hour. The yelling method has its merits too, honestly. Sometimes a good threat is all the motivation inanimate objects need.
