Almost ruined a whole batch of leather covers last week

I was in a groove binding 4 journals in one day - got too confident lol. Forgot to check my PVA glue pH before brushing it on some beautiful dark blue goatskin from a shop in Portland. Turns out the glue was way too acidic and left white patches where it seeped through the edges. Caught it after the first cover so only wasted 2 hours fixing the mess with some baking soda paste. Has anyone else had glue chemistry mess up their leather like that?

Baking soda paste probably fixed it fine, not sure it was that serious.

Well, I guess we can close the book on advanced chemistry then.
