Warning: our book club picked a 900 page novel and lost 6 members in one week
Last Tuesday we met at Carol's place in Sacramento to pick our next read, and somebody suggested Infinite Jest. By Friday, 6 of our 11 members had already texted saying they were out, and one guy, Marcus, said he read the first 40 pages twice and still had no clue what was happening. The worst part is we now have 5 people pretending they love it so nobody feels dumb. Has anyone here survived a big book pick like this, and how do you get people back without just switching to something easy?
