Vent: I quit judging audiobooks as 'not real reading' after my book club picked one in January
Our club in Sacramento picked a 14 hour audiobook for January and I showed up ready to argue that listening does not count as reading the book, but then I noticed I could quote scenes the paperback folks forgot. By the third meeting I was the one pulling up the narrator's pause before chapter 9 to settle a fight about whether the main character was lying, and the narrator's choice totally changed how I read that scene. So for the clubs that split on this, do you let audiobooks count the same as paper, or do you make people pick a format?
Our club never argues about format, but nobody talks about how the narrator basically becomes a cowriter, like a director deciding where you breathe. Pick a book with a flat reader and you'll see it, the same words land like a totally different story.
