Unpopular opinion: sometimes a short story collection hits harder than a novel

I mean, I used to skip short story collections because I thought they were just filler between author projects. But last month I read "Interpreter of Maladies" by Jhumpa Lahiri and it totally changed my mind. The way she packed full emotional arcs into 20 page chunks was way more impactful than some 400 page novels I've struggled through. Has anyone else found a collection that totally changed your opinion on the format?

That quote says "hits harder" but I think different.

Yeah my buddy had a similar thing with a different quote. He got "knowledge is power" tattooed on his arm in like 2017 and now he's always saying how that morning routine stuff hits different after actually living through some stuff. He works overnight security at a warehouse and swears the quote changed meaning for him at 3am when he's alone with just his thoughts. Funny how that happens.
