Unpopular opinion: I hated Moby Dick until I actually went to Nantucket
I dragged my feet for 6 months on reading it for our club. Then I took a weekend trip to Nantucket last fall and walked around the whaling museum. Standing next to a real 50 foot whale jawbone and reading old crew logs made the whole thing click. The obsession, the danger, the isolation it felt real instead of just boring. Has anyone else had a book click after visiting a place in it?

Standing in that whaling museum totally changed the book for me too.

Being surrounded by all that old whaling gear made me realize I've never even been on a boat that size, not even a ferry.
