TIL I wasted $60 on a fancy book club subscription that just sent me the same book everyone already read
I signed up for this curated book club box, and after three months they shipped me a copy of 'The Midnight Library' which my whole group had already discussed back in March. Anybody else get burned by a book service that didn't check what you've actually read?

Did you check if they had a "skip this month" option before you got charged? I actually read this article a few weeks ago about how a lot of these book boxes just use the same pool of bestsellers and don't bother checking your reading history, which is exactly what happened to you. It's wild that they'd send 'The Midnight Library' though, that book was everywhere last year, feels like they just grabbed whatever was left on the shelf. I've been burned by a subscription service before too, where they sent me a cookbook I already owned, and it made me swear off all those mystery boxes unless I can pick the titles myself. Honestly, I'd call your credit card company and dispute the charge since they didn't deliver what was promised, that usually gets their attention fast.

oh man, that really stings. i feel for you especially because those curated boxes are supposed to feel special, not like a total rip off. it's almost like they didn't even look at the survey you probably filled out about what you already own or have read. i got burned by a similar thing a couple years back with a mystery book subscription, and they sent me a book i had literally reviewed on my blog the month before. it just feels like a waste of money and also kind of insulting, you know? like they're just clearing out stock and calling it "curated." really hoping you can get your money back or at least a credit for something good next time.
