The one member who brought a highlighter to every meeting
Last March at the Maplewood library, this guy named Dan showed up with like 4 different colored highlighters and marked up his copy of The Road before we even sat down. He kept saying things like "this is the key metaphor" and then refused to explain why, just pointed at the page. It drove me nuts for 3 months until I realized he never actually read the books, he just highlighted random lines the night before. Has anyone else dealt with a fake deep reader who ruins the discussion with nonsense?

Called him out gently one week by asking which part he highlighted and what it meant to him. He stumbled for a minute, then admitted he skimmed the book and just liked how the sentences looked.
