The book club member who told me I was reading wrong
Last month at my local group in Portland, a retired librarian named Carol said I was speed reading through the emotional beats in 'The House of the Spirits.' She pointed out I missed the scene where Clara stops speaking - that was the whole point of her character. Now I force myself to pause after every chapter and write down one feeling it gave me. Anybody else get feedback that totally changed how you approach a book?

My buddy Dave got told he always missed the humor in books and now he laughs out loud at least once per chapter to prove them wrong.

Yeah I used to think people who forced themselves to find humor in stuff were just faking it but honestly maybe forcing it changes how your brain sees things over time.
