That friend who said 'just read the last chapter first' actually ruined the whole book for me
My buddy Mark told me to skip to the end of The Silent Patient to see if I could guess the twist. I did it and now I feel like I cheated myself out of the whole experience. The buildup and all those clues just fell flat because I already knew the big reveal. Has anyone else tried this and regretted it?

Oh man, "just read the last chapter first" is literally the worst advice ever. I did the same thing with Gone Girl because my cousin swore it would make the book more fun, but all it did was kill every single twist for me. Totally felt like I cheated myself too, once you know the ending everything else just feels pointless.

God, YES. Thank you. This exact thing happened to me with a thriller. My friend said the same thing. Read the end first, it makes the clues more fun. But no. It ruined everything. The whole point of a mystery is the journey. Knowing the ending just made me skim through the boring parts. I felt robbed. Never again.
