That $200 annotated copy of Ulysses I bought for my book club was a total waste

I lost $200 on a special annotated Ulysses edition because nobody in my group could get past page 50 and we switched to a different book after two meetings, has anyone else overpaid for a book that flopped in your club?

Page 48 of that same annotated Ulysses is where I finally gave up trying to track all the notes in the margins. I get why it's frustrating when you put down that kind of cash and nobody else is into it, but honestly I think it's more on the group for picking such a dense book without checking if everyone was ready for it. $200 is steep but if you ever find the right person to trade with or just keep it on your shelf for later, it's not a total loss. Sometimes a book just isn't for that crowd and that's fine.

Page 48 is exactly where my copy started collecting dust too.
