I had something similar happen in my gaming group last month over a board game rules debate. Three people told me I was "dominating the conversation" when I was just trying to figure out if the rulebook was actually wrong. It stung more than I expected because I thought I was being helpful. Book club stuff is supposed to be relaxed, not a debate competition. Your person probably just felt pushed into a corner and snapped. I'd just let it sit for a week then bring it up to them one on one.
