Showerthought: our club spent 2.5 hours on one chapter and the book was better for it
Everyone in my club keeps pushing for a strict 45 minute cap per meeting, and I think that rule is the problem. Last Thursday we met at Rosa's place in Austin and got stuck on chapter 4 of a 300 page novel for 2 hours and 40 minutes, way past our usual stop time. We argued about one scene, circled back twice, and someone read a page out loud to prove a point. The people who hate long meetings were the ones who kept talking, which tells me something. Our next pick is a short one, 180 pages, and I already know the clock crowd will rush it. Does your club have a hard time limit, and does it help or just cut good talks short?
