It's this thing where liking a twist has become a badge of being smart. People tie their whole identity to "getting" a story, so if you didn't like it, you must be dumb. I see it with movies, shows, even video games now. It turns talking about a book into a weird competition instead of just sharing what you thought.

Wow, getting that worked up over a book ending seems a bit much. It's just a thriller, right? What's there even to "get" that's so deep?
