Our club picked a 700 page book and the retired mailman changed how I think about 'too long'
Last Tuesday at our meeting in the back room of the Maple Street diner, a guy named Ray said the length of a book is not a flaw, it is a choice the writer made and we should meet them where they are. I had been the loudest one saying 700 pages is just lazy editing, and his line about giving the writer the same time we give a Netflix series has been sitting with me all week. How do you all set a page limit for club picks without shutting down the people who want the big books?
