I used to argue against page count in book club, then a 700 page brick changed my mind
For years I was the person saying length doesn't matter, only the story. Then last month we read a 700 page historical novel and I kept zoning out around page 200. I blamed the book, but realized I was the problem. I had been skimming all the short books without noticing. Now I see page count is a real factor for pacing, not a gatekeeping thing. How do your clubs handle long books vs short ones?

That "realized I was the problem" part hit me hard, I've been there too with a long book and it's a humbling feeling. Glad you shared this, it's easy to judge ourselves over something like that.
